Autumn/Winter: corduroy, flannel and prints, made in Portugal

Before it is a garment, a BACCUS shirt is a set of decisions made by our design and sales team in Gondomar, in the space where the brand works with the same principles: choosing the fabric well, cutting with precision, and sewing without shortcuts. This is not a speech to promote the shirts; it is the daily process behind every shirt that leaves the production line. The Autumn/Winter collection is born from that same logic, now applied to fabrics designed for the cold, with the same care the brand dedicates to its spring/summer shirts.

"Made in Portugal" is a phrase found on many labels, but at BACCUS, it corresponds to something concrete: national production from start to finish. This means direct control over the quality of the seams, how the fabric is treated before being cut, and the final finishing of each shirt. It is also what allows BACCUS to quickly adjust a model, test a new color, or correct a detail without relying on factories on the other side of the world. Here, national production is not just an isolated selling point.

There is a craft behind every well-mounted collar, and it is called the master shirtmaker. They are the person who knows, just by touching the fabric, whether that cut of corduroy will drape well on the shoulder or if it needs another centimeter on the sleeve. This knowledge is not learned in a manual; it is learned through years of work, shirt after shirt, correcting small details until the cut is exact. BACCUS keeps this way of working alive, and that is what you feel when you wear one of the shirts from this collection: the fit is not generic; it is thoughtful.

Corduroy is probably the fabric most associated with the cold, and not by chance. The wales that characterize it create small air pockets between the fibers, which helps to retain heat without making the shirt heavy. To the touch, it is soft from the first wear, with no need for washing to soften it up. In this collection, BACCUS presents it in two registers: beige, a neutral color that effortlessly pairs with both jeans and chinos, and green, more formal, which sits well under a blazer or a wool coat. Both maintain the button-down collar, a deliberate choice that keeps the collar in place and gives the shirt a sportier, less rigid look.

There are fabrics that stand out for their look and there are fabrics that stand out for what they do to the body. Flannel is the latter. Unlike corduroy, it has no visible texture, but it has a density and softness that are only realized when worn. It is made of cotton, and the brushing process of the fabric is what gives it that warm touch, making it ideal for days when the cold has truly set in. BACCUS chose to keep it in solid colors, beige and blue, precisely so the fabric is the protagonist rather than the pattern. This is also where the button-down collar appears again, reinforcing the casual character of this shirt, designed to be worn alone or under a thicker knit.

Not every season calls for discretion, and the printed BACCUS shirt exists precisely for the days when you want a little more presence. The geometric pattern is subtle enough not to be tiresome, but defined enough to give depth to the look. Unlike the corduroy and flannel, this shirt trades the button-down collar for an Italian collar, non-buttoned, more structured and naturally more elegant. The fit also changes: instead of the regular fit of the other shirts in the collection, the printed one uses the Contemporary Fit, a middle ground between slim and regular, with darts in the back that adjust the shirt to the body's line without tightening it. It is the shirt in this collection best prepared for a dinner or a more formal meeting.

Outside of this Autumn/Winter collection, but part of the same complete wardrobe reasoning, is poplin cotton, the reference fabric for BACCUS's more formal shirts. It is a plain-weave fabric, without relief, which results in a smooth finish with a slight sheen, ideal for a suit or a more demanding work context. It is worth having two or three of these shirts in your closet for days when corduroy or flannel are too informal for the occasion.
